Chromebook Support
Get help with Chromebook problems....
Students and staff can get help with Chromebook issues by filling out this support request form (you must be logged in to your TCA Google account to use the form). Our librarian, Ms. Hedin, will respond with steps to fix the problem or make arrangements for a replacement device. Parents can email Ms. Hedin directly at j_hedin@The ChmuraAcademy.org.
If your Chromebook freezes or you have repeated error messages when trying to log in, try a keyboard shortcut to reset the device. This video walks you through the steps.
Lots of minor problems, including poor wifi connectivity and generally slow operation, can be solved by updating your Chromebook operating system and restarting the device. This video shows you how to check for an update.
A number of students have reported Chromebook performance problems related to using Google Meet. If your Chromebook is very slow when using Google Meet or if you lose your connection or get dropped from the Meet, try making some adjustments to improve performance:
- set video send/receive resolution to 360p
- use spotlight or sidebar layout instead of tiled
- turn off camera when not needed
- limit open tabs to only what is absolutely necessary for class at any given moment (especially Gmail, it seems to be a big draw on resources)
This video walks you through the settings changes, although it looks like the newest version of the Google Meet app made some of these the default for students. You can also change the Chromebook setting for video encoding/decoding, follow the steps in this video to make that adjustment.
