Back to School Plan Update: Bishop Fenwick High School is committed to providing the safest educational environment possible. As promised, the plan for returning to school has been, and will continue to be, adjusted based on the best data available.
Recent studies have been reported to compare the effectiveness of different face coverings when it comes to mitigating the spread of the virus. Considering these studies, it has been decided to adjust our policy on the type of face coverings permitted to be worn in the school building. While there are varieties, “gaiters” or “buff” sleeve style coverings tend to be made of thin, breathable, and stretchy material. These style face coverings are now being reported to not prevent the spread of aerosol droplets, and in some cases create issues by breaking down large droplets into smaller droplets which are then easier to spread. For this reason, these sleeve style coverings will not be permitted as an option for students, faculty, staff or visitors in the school building.
Below is the updated policy regarding face coverings:
*Appropriate face coverings include cloth and paper masks styles such as those which have elastic around the ears or around the head which cover both the mouth and nose. Purchased or made cloth face coverings should be in line with recommendations from the CDC and should be worn to cover the nose, mouth, and chin. “Gaiter” and “buff” style will not be permitted as a face covering in the school.
Our Return to School Plan posted on the website and Portals reflects this change in policy, as well as some other minor additions and adjustments. You can find the full plan on our website and on Portals. We thank everyone for their cooperation in efforts to return to school in the safest way possible!
